About this item:

Sazare-ishi (gritstone) is formed when limestone dissolves due to rainwater and other factors. The dissolved components (such as calcium carbonate) act like cement, binding surrounding small stones together to form a large mass. Its scientific name is calcareous breccia, a type of sedimentary rock, and it is a crystal of time formed over many years.
The phrase Sazare-ishi no iwa to narite... (Gritstones grow into boulders...) from the national anthem refers to this type of stone.

- This is a rare natural stone with a unique shape, originating from the vicinity of Mt. Ibuki, one of Japan's famous mountains located on the border of Gifu and Shiga prefectures.
- It can be used as a decorative stone as is, such as for bonseki (tray landscapes) or suiseki (viewing stones). It also has a unique charm when moss is grown on its surface.
- There may be slight differences in color tone and shading between the photos and the actual product.

*The front and back in the photos are for convenience and depend on how the stone is placed. (The first and last images show the front and back. The other images show the front from four directions and from directly above.)
