RARE Matching Pair Antique Victorian Silver-plated Bride's Baskets Bride Wedding
Meriden Britannia Company
RARE gorgeous patina matching pair of antique Victorian silver-plated bride's baskets (often referred to as flower basket vases) featuring detailed repoussé Dutch tavern country festival scenes. The green material inside the bowls is floral foam, which was likely added by a previous owner to assist in arranging flowers within the baskets for flower girls to carry. Meriden Britannia Company (pattern number 83644), which eventually merged into the International Silver Company. Similar repoussé styles with matching Dutch scenes were also produced under the Barbour Silver Co. line, which shared patterns and factory lineages during the late 19th-century silver consolidation era. Known popularly as bride's baskets, pieces like these were highly fashionable wedding gifts in the late 1800s. They traditionally held a bride's wedding bouquet The Pair Premium: In the antique market, finding a perfectly matched pair of these vessels is relatively uncommon. Collectors and interior decorators look for a symmetrical pair to frame a mantlepiece, buffet table, or sideboard. Intricate Repoussé Work: The high-relief Dutch tavern and festival scenes are quite popular with collectors of Victorian-era narrative silverplate. #361
